The faculty have a scientific production that overcomes the national average. Most of the scientific results have been published in journals of high impact factor, with around 70% in stratum A1-A2-B1 and B2 in the Qualis CAPES evaluation. The participation of students in such papers has been close to 60%, indicating the involvement of students and teachers with work carried out in the program and providing good quality for master’s and doctorate’s work. The projects developed in the program go beyond the knowledge, looking for results that can make new technologies available to society. Research involving new materials in the field of glass and ceramics has been developed in the department. In addition, techniques to measure optical, electrical, thermal and mechanical properties were introduced and applied in the characterization and control of new materials. Also, there is an increasing interest in the application of new materials and techniques developed in the physics to solve problems in biological system.
